Radiocalc or dBcalc - Conversions RF Engineering

Besides classical functions and dB conversions, RadioCalc includes a converter of Power to field strength commonly used for EMC/EMS test-set-up. Also impedance can be represented as a function of reflection coefficient (somehow like an electronic Smith-chart). This and many other functions are obtained by clicking into the arrow of the "Conversion off" window.

Thanks to RadioCalc the different dB charts are obsolete by computing the ratios of Power (W) or Voltages (V) according to dB = 10*log(P2/P1) ou dB = 20*log(V2/V1).

Just for a trial : type 100/10 (or just 10) and push the dB button as the 'W' mode is chosen, the result will be 10 dB, then choose the 'V' mode by clicking in the V button (in the Quick dB window) push again dB, the result is now 20 dB.

In microwave circuit design S-parameters are very useful for the full characterisation of any 2 port network. In contrast to z,y and h-parameters, which require broadband short circuited and open circuited connections at the TEST ITEM for the measurement,

S-parameters are determined with input and output terminated with the resistive characteristic impedance of test systems (generally 50 ohms in a coaxial line system). Parasitic oscillations in active devices are minimised when these devices are terminated in resistive loads."

Data, Media and Telecommunications Standards

Wireless Communications now have voice, data, media. It has capability of the Internet, making a portable device part of the World Wide Web. There are companies and institutions that are making this utopia of a connected world possible with the systematic approach.

The Communications Network

Now with IoT, WSN and M2M a complexity arises. Robots, Drones, Automobiles and Machines have wireless connectivity with an IP address or a Phone Number. All this is possible when we think of technologies more like Wi-Fi and WiMax merging with mobile-cellular systems. We have to abandon the Towers and go for Modular Daisy Chain of Repeaters on Street Poles and Fiber Optic Nodes. Maybe like these folks say LightRadio Antenna Module

Whatever the struggle between technologies, The future communications will be just Broadband Wireless Devices with Voice, Data and Web all in one. The intermediate technologies we see today, the Transitional Technologies are part of a Large Learning Curve. The future may be more of Optics, WiMax and more like Any Device can do Anything. Not Convergence but more an Intermeshed Collage.

The Budget of the Average consumer will be less, the appetite enormous. The Business Models complex and very challenging. The customer potential is 100% and it will work only if it is affordable and planned carefully. It is not as easy as it looks.
